In Orlando (Orange County), new sod and landscape installations are supported by clear county regulations that make getting your lawn back in shape easy. New sod receives a 30‑day “watering exception”. This means for the first month after installation, homeowners can water the new turf any day, at any time, provided only the newly sodded area is irrigated. For the following 30 days, you’re allowed watering every other day. To qualify, you simply need to provide your name, address, phone number, and proof of sod purchase to Orange County Utilities.
Outside this exemption, regular watering rules apply: two days/week during Daylight Saving Time, one day/week in winter. Its also restricted to between sunrise and 10 a.m. or after 4 p.m., and limited to one hour per irrigation zone.
While these regulations are homeowner-friendly, new turf still needs proper care. A quality Sprinkler and irrigation system, fertilizer, and correct installation techniques (including lawn prep, proper grading, and avoiding overwatering) are essential.
